Curricular Committee

From Duke Prospective Health Care Club

Jump to: navigation, search

The Curricular Committee seeks to educate and inspire students about the promise of prospective health care as a solution to today's impending health care problems. Two years ago, the committee formed a comprehensive syllabus for a House Course on PHC. House Courses are .5 credit courses taught by Duke undergraduates that other undergraduates can sign up for. The course, titled "Averting a Health Care Disaster: The Promise of Prospective Health Care," was deemed a success and is being taught every Fall semester by new students. The syllabus is continually evolving, keeping the course material as current as possible. The course begins with an overview of the current health care system, highlighting the pros and cons of the system, and continues with a survey of various diagnostic technologies and a concurrent examination of doctor-patient relationships. Ethical dilemmas brought about by new predictive tools are discussed and the course concludes by positing PHC as not only an answer, but a necessary solution to the rising costs and subpar quality of care of the current health care system.

This year, the Curricular Committee has broadened its mission to a more national level. The Committee seeks to write informative commentaries explaining the necessity of PHC, how university students can get involved, and how PHC is being implemented now. We are looking to publish and post these features in various media commonly read by students, whether they be online or print publications. We are more than open to new ideas about ways to inform others about PHC.
